Biography

Active: 1944 – 2015

Luang Phor Koon was born to a poor farming family on 4 October 1923 in Korat, Thailand. He became a monk at age 21. For the next 10 years, he traveled by foot through the deep jungles of Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia to practice deep meditation and learn spiritual arts.

He later returned to his hometown temple, Wat Ban Rai, which was then a small wooden shack. Over the decades, his reputation for wisdom and powerful amulets drew millions of visitors—ranging from poor farmers to the Thai Royal Family.

Despite raising billions of Baht in donations, he lived in absolute poverty and gave away all his money to build schools, hospitals, and water reservoirs. He was famously known for his humble squatting pose, his plain language, and blessing people with a gentle tap on the head. He passed away on 16 May 2015 at age 92, selflessly donating his body to medical science.
